木版にインクで模様を押すスタンプとは異なり、インドネシア伝統技法のバティックは、銅製のスタンプ(チャップ Cap）に熱した蝋を付け、一つひとつ丁寧に布へ押して模様を描きます。蝋は布の繊維まで浸透し、その後に染色を行うことで、繊細で美しい模様が生まれます。この技法は日本の「抜染」と同じ原理で、表と裏の区別がつかないほど美しく染め上がることが特徴です。一枚一枚が、熟練した職人の技術と長年受け継がれてきた伝統によって丁寧に作られています。

Unlike textile printing with ink and wooden blocks, traditional Indonesian batik is created by applying hot wax with handcrafted copper stamps (Cap). The wax penetrates deep into the fabric before the cloth is dyed, creating intricate and enduring patterns. This process follows the same principle as the Japanese resist-dyeing technique known as Bassen, resulting in designs that are beautifully visible on both sides of the fabric. Each textile is carefully crafted by skilled artisans using techniques passed down through generations.
